Every evening, around dusk, this time of the year, a very large flock of birds get tucked into the cypress trees in our front yard. There is some pattern to how they are released but I don’t know what it is. It is kind wonderful and yet kind of weird too.
Video is three minutes long and the activity picks up.
Wow. The birds really like your area, Gary. I had the same view when I stayed at my mother’s house in Moolum, Kilkenny, Ireland.

They only stay here for about three months from December to February. I guess we are a destination resort!

That’s pretty neat! Are they Grackles? I love those trees – looks pretty windy – have you been getting those huge winds? I read that many of the ski resorts around Tahoe had to close down due to 100 mph winds – wow!

I am not sure what the are. This particular flick seems to be nearly 500 birds. I noticed across the road another large group was heading into another tree. Oh, Orland is really windy, right on the I-5, it really blows out here. 50 mph is not considered as a “wind event.” Jarbo Gap wonds(the canyon that created the firestorm in Paradise) got up to 70 mph..and yes, on those Sierra Nevada ridges, 100 mph is not unusual. We once had 100 mph winds in Paradise. Now up there all the burned trees are falling down. Yesterday a tree blew into a house stopping just short of a sleep big child’s head. A few years ago in Paradise our neighbor got out of chair just moments before a 150 pine tree crashed where she had been sitting. I could go on and on..

Birds and squirrels are not good decision makers.
