I really love this song and the images you used to tell your story. My mother was a depression baby, she carried that stigma all of her life. I discovered late in her life that her habit of over buying and keeping food to the point that some of it was very spoiled was a part of her depression mindset. No one knows except those who went through it what true hardship is.
My father, too, carried that trauma with him for his whole life. He was generous almost to a fault, yet money was also a big concern for him. He came out to California when he was 6 weeks old and really up until the war broke out, lived with what is now referred to as food insecurity and housing insecurity. Yet, like your own mother, millions lived through this and Dorothea Lange captured it . I am glad you liked the song. I re-recorded it with those talented folks in Nashville. It sounded better with the photos!
Well done, Gary! Yes, our parents lived through this … tough times and if not for Soc. Sec., we could see similar again. FDR’s plan continues to help millions even today.

Thank you Mr. Roosevelt. The first Roosevelt for the National Parks and the 2nd one for The New Deal!
