Called one on my grandchildren today and asked if he wanted take a drive with me up into the mountains. I need to breathe that mountain air every so often. We took a few photos and videos along the way.
Kings Creek flowing through the golden grass. That’s not really your typical fog. We’re at 8,600 feet elevation and that is the floor of the clouds. It is that time of the year! He showed no fear of me or the Subaru. What is this?
Salmon have reached the end of their incredible journey as they return up Battle Creek, which runs into the Sacramento River, which then pours into San Francisco Bay and then into the Pacific Ocean. Here they are at the Coleman Fish Hatchery where their eggs will be protected for the next generation. Some of the salmon are over 3 feet in length.
The ladder prevents the salmon from continuing upstream in Battle Creek. Eventually they find an opening next to the ladder which leads into the hatchery‘s canals.
What a thrill seeing so many salmon! Thanks for sharing the videos, Gary. Looks like a beautiful day.
That 10-pt. buck would have the hunters salivating… hope he makes it through the season to pass on his DNA. 🤞🏼
That boy is in his rutting season up there in Lassen. They get a little different look in their eyes. It was a spectacular day to be out and about. The salmon just blow me away.
These images are terrific, what a lovely day. Isn’t being out in nature magical?
